  • Cecil Purdon grew up at Purdons Lane, O’Connell, New South Wales.

  • His parents were Henry and Mary Ann Purdon.

  • Cecil Purdon is on the St Thomas Anglican Church Honour Roll at O’Connell.

Service:

  • Cecil enlisted on 18 August 1914 at the age of 25.  He stated he was a farmer at the time of enlistment.

  • Cecil Purdon sailed on 18 October 1914 on the Suffolk.

  • He was wounded in action on the first day of fighting at Gallipoli, on 25 April 1915. He recovered in Cairo and was transferred to France, where he was wounded on 28 July 2016.

  • He was promoted to Corporal on 4 March 1916 and Sergeant on 25 March 2016, to Lieutenant on 19 December 1916, and served until the end of the war.

  • He returned to Australia on 20 April 1919 on the Boonah and was discharged on 10 August 1919.

  • Cecil reenlisted on 3 August 1921.
